With four universities within ten minutes of Christian Fellowship Center, we recognize our immediate sphere of influence. Over 45 countries are represented in this small area, plus all the American students who call this place home for four years. And yet, on these knowledge meccas, the name of Jesus is hardly heard. CFC’s college ministry exists to change the spiritual climate on the campuses and to reach as many students as possible in this transitional time of their lives. In 2006 CFC was able to begin renting storefront space at 57 Market St. in downtown Potsdam for use as the College Life Center.
57 Market sees continued growth and impact on the area campuses. Every day the building used for classes, cell groups, training seminars, Life Group (our weekly worship and speaking time), prayer meetings, and a place where discipleship happens. People passing on the busy street are often invited inside for a cup of coffee or to satisfy their curiosity–one of the most commonly heard questions from the public “What is this place?”
The college ministry of Christian Fellowship Center has seen thousands of students throughout the year–the goal is not to retain them for life (we understand our position as a place of training and sending out), but to teach them the value of local church and family. Most of the key leaders at CFC were college students who never left, so we don’t mind it when that happens. But our goal is to provide a place for discipleship to happen and relationship building. 57 Market helps out with that!
